After we cross Lake Martin, we will enter the Cypress Island Swamp which is the largest nesting area of wading birds in the state of Louisiana. In the Spring of the year there are as many as 15,000 pairs of nesting wading birds such as Woodstorks, Rosette Spoonbills, Glossy Ibis, White Ibis, Cattle Egrets, Snowy Egrets, Great Egrets and Little Blue Herons are some of the species to be found in great abundance nesting in the Cypress Island Rookery.
